Hulu.com, free content online

I've been playing around with this website quite a bit, and I tell you, it's not bad. It seems to be actually run by major studio networks (well at least NBC), and is ad driven. The ads aren't too bad, and in fact less then what you see when watching tv. The sound is good, and some movies have a 480 resolution setting, which is pretty clear. There doesn't seem to be a way to watch this on the iphone yet, so far Joost seems to have the upper hand here. Joost was the clear front runner in this genre, but Hulu.com was a little more savvy by allowing this to run off Flash, and directly from the web. Joost required you to use a Java plugin that you had to download and launch each time you wanted to run it. The selection is very large, but very incomplete. For example Battlestar Galactica is a popular series available on Hulu.com, but it seems to have only season 4. The earlier ones aren't there, perhaps intentionally so that once you're hooked by watching the available season, you'll have to spring for the others out of your own pocket. I actually like this service for the older, harder to find shows. such as Buck Rogers, Who's the Boss and the original Battlestar Gallactica. Here's the very first episode of season 1 of the original BSG, courtesy of Hulu.
